Class A and Class C Membership Representation
Sawgrass Players Club is governed by Florida Statutes Chapter 720 and the Association’s governing documents, which define membership classes and Board eligibility. There are two types of membership within Sawgrass Players Club, Class A, and Class C.
Both Class A and Class C members pay assessments into the annual budget. In 2026, the total operating budget equals $3,359,154, the general reserve budget equals $571,300, and the stormwater reserve budget equals $254,000 for a total budget of $4,184,454.
Class A Membership
Class A members are residential owners within Sawgrass Players Club. Class A directors:
- Must reside in one of the Association’s fifteen (15) sub-association neighborhoods and Vicar’s Landing and only one (1) director may be elected from each of these areas.
- Are elected by the residential membership
- May nominate themselves for the Board provided they are in good standing and meet statutory eligibility requirements
There are eight (8) Class A Board seats. Although Class A directors may live in a specific sub-association neighborhood or Vicars Landing, they have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the entire community, not solely the neighborhood in which they reside.
All Class A members pay the same assessment of $978 per residential dwelling unit.
Class C Membership
Class C members consist of non-residential and institutional property owners who contribute to the Association based on square footage. Class C directors:
- Are elected exclusively by the Class C membership
- Represent the Class C interests at the Board level while maintaining a fiduciary duty to the entire Association
At the present time, there is one (1) Class C Board seat.
The Association includes 33 Class C members, each entitled to voting rights based on the share of the assessments they pay, as established in the governing documents.
Vicars Landing Clarification
- Vicars Landing – Original campus is classified as both:
- A Class C member for its service facilities, and
- A Class A member for its residential dwelling units. Voting rights are allocated the same as other Class A and Class B members (see the Declaration of Restrictions and Supplemental Declaration recorded in OR Book 728, at page 159, St. Johns County public records).
- Vicars Landing at Oakbridge is a Class C member only, with assessments and voting rights calculated based on total square footage.
Collectively Class C Members and Vicars Landing pay $949,704 in assessments towards the total annual budget.
Drainage Entities and Other Revenue
In addition to the above members, the Association receives $92,602 in assessments from 7 drainage entities who drain into the Players Club stormwater system and an annual assessment from the PGA Tour in accordance with their covenant responsibilities.
Eligibility and Fiduciary Responsibility
All Board members are elected or appointed to serve three-year terms. Board members may serve up to two three-year consecutive terms and annually three Board seats open for nomination.
In 2026, Class A members in good standing may run from the following sub associations: Bridgewater Island, Lakeside, Water Oak, Players Club Villas, Sawgrass Island, Seven Mile Drive, Turtleback Crossing, Bermuda Court, Oakbridge, North Cove and Waters Edge.
Regardless of class or method of election, all Board members owe a fiduciary duty to the entire Sawgrass Players Club membership and must act in accordance with Florida law and the Association’s governing documents. In this role they set the annual budget, levy fines and create rules in accordance with covenants, and partner with third party vendors to run the daily operations of the community.
Members are encouraged to attend Board meetings, where there is an opportunity to speak on matters considered by the Board. Over the next few months, the Board will be increasing the monthly e Notices to residents, please encourage your neighbors to sign up on the website to ensure they receive e Notices.
